A new F1 generation male-sterile hybrid burley variety Eyan 209, with stable genetic traits and unanimously tidy group,was developed with MSVa509E as maternal and Burley 37 as paternal, and released by the Chinese Board for Tobacco Variety Examination and Approval in March, 2009. Its major economic characters, apparent quality and physical properties were better than those of the control variety Eyan 1. The integrated qualities of cured leaves with moderate and harmonious chemical components and preferable smoke-quality were slightly better than the control variety. It had a better resistance than the control, with resistance to TMV, moderate resistance to black shank, susceptible to brown spot. Eyan 209 with the good quality, anti-disease, yield, adaptability,can be suitably planted in Hubei, Chongqing, Yunnan and other zones with similar climatic condition.
