      Abstract: The principle and characteristics of the molecular marker techniques of SSR and ISSR were described. The advances in their application to various genetic and breeding studies, including genetic diversity analyses, fingering maps and purity control of cultivars, gene localization, and marker-assisted selection were reviewed. The potential application in tobacco was suggested.
